1. How to Connect with Editors & Reporters

JD Supra tools to discover media members showing interest in your firm’s existing expertise:

Reader Report: within your analytics dashboard, this report includes names of people who have read, followed, and shared your work. If you’re subscribed to Reader Highlight emails we also send a digest of notable engagement directly to your inbox.

Next Steps: visit your analytics regularly and browse your Reader Reports. Connect with these media members (on LinkedIn, Twitter; by email). The connection keeps you top-of-mind as you share new work and enables you to explore PR opportunities directly. (If you’re not subscribed to Reader Highlights emails, do so within Subscriptions.)

Sources Report: also available within analytics, the Sources report includes links to media sites that have directly referenced your firm’s thought leadership. By referring to your content, these blogs, news outlets, and publications indicate that they value what your author(s) say on a particular topic and believe their readers would as well.

Next Steps: share this pickup with your attorneys to show them the targeted visibility they’ve earned with their writing. Contact the author of the post/article referencing your work to thank them and offer a follow-up article on a related topic. Look for other opportunities on the publication site (ex: do they produce webinars or events in which one of your attorneys might serve as a subject matter expert?)

Direct Media Inquiries: via two methods. First, editors and reporters may contact your firm directly via the Contact button on your JD Supra content and profiles. These queries go to your main account administrator and relevant author(s). Second, JD Supra editors receive and forward general media queries, covering a range of newsworthy topics, from reporters looking for sources.

Next Steps: let us know if you’d like to be included as a contact for media queries on JD Supra. Connect with reporters, even if your firm is unable to respond to the particular inquiry, to cultivate a relationship for future opportunities that may be more appropriate for your firm. If you do have a viable source, respond quickly; as you know, reporters are typically on a tight deadline.
